What Are Common Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures?

Your local dentist can provide a lot of value to you. They can improve your confidence, fix a broken tooth, or straighten your teeth. But what are these procedures called and what exactly do they entail? In today's post, we'll cover some of the more common cosmetic dentistry procedures and how they can improve your oral health.

Teeth Whitening: This is probably the most common cosmetic dentistry procedure. There are typically two different ways dentists perform teeth whitening. The first method of teeth whitening is gel bleaching which is an oxidizing agent applied to the teeth via a thin plastic tray for a designated amount of time. Teeth whitening gel comes in both a low concentration and high concentration gel. Typically the low concentration is what you can perform at home and the high concentration whitening gel is applied in the dentist's office. The option you choose will depend on several factors which your dentist will help you to decide.

Dental Bonding and Tooth Reshaping: While dental bonding could be a phrase to describe you and your dentist forging a friendly relationship, it actually describes the procedure of bonding composite to your teeth. Your teeth can then be sculpted and shaped to fit in with your other teeth.

Tooth reshaping is just like it sounds: small chips can be fixed, as can the position of a tooth, or the even the length. A very small amount of enamel is typically removed from the tooth, but the result is a quick fix to a cosmetic problem.

Gingival Sculpting: It can be very common for someone to have a beautiful smile; however the individual's gums are taking the attention off the teeth. For those who feel their gums make up too much of their smile (gummy smile) there is an option; Gingival Sculpting. In this process, the cosmetic dentist will re-shape the gum line to make it less predominant in order to show off more of the teeth.

Straightening of Teeth with Invisalign: When most people think of straightening their teeth they typically think of traditional metal braces, however, these days there are other options. Invisalign is a teeth straightening system that will correct crooked teeth without metal braces. Instead, Invisalign uses a clear mouth guard style appliance. This appliance can be take out when eating, easily cleaned, and is much more comfortable than traditional metal braces. Invisalign clear braces have been used for quite some time now to correct and straighten teeth.

There are many other procedures that fall under this category; however these are some of the very common ones. If you live in the Milwaukee or Franklin, Wisconsin area you are in luck because there is a cosmetic dentist at Franklin Dental who has year of experience in successful cosmetic dental procedures.
